9/3/2018 0 Comments Recommended Trumpet Books: For Pre-College and Undergraduate Level Trumpet StudentsBooks marked with an *asterisk are “must-haves”. While this list is by no means exhaustive, these are the books that I believe to be the most valuable for the majority of pre-college and undergraduate level trumpet students. There are many more fantastic books and methods covering an even larger variety of techniques than those listed here, but this list should prove to be a valuable reference for your library.

Sick of hearing your son or daughter run the same exercise over and over? Is he or she getting frustrated with their progress? Maybe your child is coming home with their instrument, only for you to hear complete silence while they hole up in their room staring at their music. Here are some tips and tricks to help you encourage your student to practice, enjoy practicing, and practice more efficiently.
I will be performing first trumpet with the Muncie Civic Theater's rendition of "Seussical." Tickets are $18 for adults, and $13 for students and children (reserved seating). You can attend the show at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts on the following dates:

I will be performing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the MFSOM Orchestra and providing lessons and classes throughout the camp. Also, following the camp will be our 14th Annual Opus at the Kavarna Coffee House in Green Bay, WI. If you are a fan of community art and music events, be sure to check out Jennifer Rodriguez's senior recital, "The Musical Pallette," this Friday, April 7th, at 5:30 pm at Ball State University. The recital will be held in Pruis Hall and is a culmination of artists and musicians, including many commissioned works of art, a commissioned three movement piece by Josh Kattner (who I mentioned in my last post), and some cool merch to be won! The event is FREE and will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the University of Indianapolis in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center from 9 am to 4 pm. In other news, my masterclasses held at Pendleton High School on March 8th was a success. I hope to put up a blog post soon about what we discussed about developing appropriate practice habits. If you have questions about how to structure your practice sessions, or how to practice specific musical skills, please leave a comment below! Finally, if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably saw that I recorded for an independent short film titled "Sea-Tectives" March 2nd. It was a great experience, and Josh Kattner of Pure Note LLC did a fantastic job composing the score and leading our session. If you get a chance, check out some of his other compositions on Soundcloud. If you ever need to commission a score for a film, recital, or project, definitely contact Josh. I'll be sure to post the date and location of the film premier (happening in Muncie, IN sometime later this Spring) when it becomes available. This week the Norwell HS Show Choirs will be traveling to the bustling city of Chicago to compete in the Heart of America show choir competition on March 4th. If you are from the area, or are performing, competing, or traveling with another show choir, please leave a comment below or come find me at the event! I'm looking forward to playing lead with a passionate group of kids and a killer band. In other news, I will be presenting two trumpet masterclasses on Wednesday, March 8th at Pendleton High School at 3:30 pm. I will be discussing trumpet techniques, tone, how to develop good practice habits and warm-up routines, sound models and more, as well as a Q&A at the end of each class. Be sure to check it out, and come support these kids at their concert later in the evening!
