This is drumming up to be a very exciting week! The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management will be revealing a series of exciting community projects next Friday at the Maring-Hunt Library, including the Grand Opening of the Maring-Hunt Community Garden Pavilion and a Mobile Farmers' Market. I will be performing a variety of Acoustic, Blues, Jazz, Pop, and Folk music at the event from 3:00-5:00 PM. The event will feature a family-friendly atmosphere as well as food, games, and more on Friday April 28 from 1:00-5:00 PM. Also this week, Music for the Sake of Music's summer music program has officially opened up registration for the 2017 season! The program runs from July 21 to August 9, and provides a daily lesson program for beginners, lessons and enrichment music classes (such as conducting, composition, chamber groups, and more) for all ages, and three performing ensembles open to the community. I will be performing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the MFSOM Orchestra and providing lessons and classes throughout the camp. Also, following the camp will be our 14th Annual Opus at the Kavarna Coffee House in Green Bay, WI. The event is free and open to the public, and you will get to here a variety of solo and chamber works performed by the MFSOM staff. You can learn more about Music for the Sake of Music and register for our 2017 program here.

In other news, my masterclasses held at Pendleton High School on March 8th was a success. I hope to put up a blog post soon about what we discussed about developing appropriate practice habits. If you have questions about how to structure your practice sessions, or how to practice specific musical skills, please leave a comment below! Finally, if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably saw that I recorded for an independent short film titled "Sea-Tectives" March 2nd. It was a great experience, and Josh Kattner of Pure Note LLC did a fantastic job composing the score and leading our session. If you get a chance, check out some of his other compositions on Soundcloud. If you ever need to commission a score for a film, recital, or project, definitely contact Josh. I'll be sure to post the date and location of the film premier (happening in Muncie, IN sometime later this Spring) when it becomes available. This week the Norwell HS Show Choirs will be traveling to the bustling city of Chicago to compete in the Heart of America show choir competition on March 4th. If you are from the area, or are performing, competing, or traveling with another show choir, please leave a comment below or come find me at the event! I'm looking forward to playing lead with a passionate group of kids and a killer band. In other news, I will be presenting two trumpet masterclasses on Wednesday, March 8th at Pendleton High School at 3:30 pm. I will be discussing trumpet techniques, tone, how to develop good practice habits and warm-up routines, sound models and more, as well as a Q&A at the end of each class. Be sure to check it out, and come support these kids at their concert later in the evening!
If there's anything YOU would like to know about the world of trumpet, or things you wish you would have known when you were in your high school band class, leave a comment below! |
